Sobre este artículo

New Castle, DE: British Library & Oak Knoll Press, The, 2003. cloth, dust jacket. Bookbinding. small 4to. cloth, dust jacket. 347 pages. First edition. Minor rubbing to tail of spine, else a near fine copy.

This ground-breaking study deals with the creative explosions of book cover designs in Victorian Britain from 1830 to 1880. Due to new technical developments many practitioners such as Owen Jones, Walter Crane and John Leighton broke new ground in artistic styling. Edmund King, Head of the Newspaper Archives at the British Library, describes and indexes over 750 books with great detail. Many covers are beautifully illustrated in full color or black-and-white. This volume is an essential reference work for students of Victorian art as well as 19th-century publishing and binding practices. This work has 210 illustrations. Co-published with The British Library. Sales rights: North and South America, available elsewhere, The British Library. From the reference library of Philadelphia Rare Books & Manuscripts with their bookplate included.

Sobre Oak Knoll Books/Oak Knoll Press

Oak Knoll Books was founded in 1976 by Bob Fleck, a chemical engineer by training, who let his hobby get the best of him. Somehow making oil refineries more efficient using mathematics and computers paled in comparison to the joy of handling books. Oak Knoll Press, the second part of the business, was established in 1978 as a logical extension of Oak Knoll Books. Oak Knoll Books is a thriving company that maintains an inventory of about 20,000 titles. Our main specialties are books about bibliography, book collecting, book design, book illustration, book selling, bookbinding, bookplates, children's books, Delaware books, fine press books, forgery, graphic arts, libraries, literary criticism, marbling, papermaking, printing history, publishing, typography & type specimens, and writing & calligraphy - plus books about the history of all of these fields.
