Melbourne ; Sydney ; Wellington ; London : The Rose Stereograph Co., [1911]. Stereoscopic gelatin silver print photograph, each image 78 x 76 mm, mount 95 x 175 mm, from the series Great suffragette demonstration in London, serial no. 11,950, printed title beneath image Mrs. Fisher, Mrs. McGowen and Miss Vida Goldstein from Australia; both prints are in fine condition; the mount has a tiny surface scratch at bottom edge and a couple of marks on the verso. Many Australian women played a significant role in the suffragist movement, but perhaps none more so than Portland-born and Melbourne-educated Vida Goldstein (1869-1949). The State Library of Victoria holds a copy of the Rose stereograph no. 11950, and its importance is underlined on the Culture Victoria website: 'This photograph shows Vida Goldstein attending a Suffragette demonstration in London in 1911, accompanied by fellow Australians Mrs. Fisher and Mrs. McGowen... This photograph is a testament to the international impact of Australian suffragists, among the most progressive and active in the world.'
