London: John Murray, 1829. Fifth edition. Hardcover. g to vg-. Octavos. Vol.1: (xix) 549pp. Vol.2: (viii) 483pp. Vol.3: (vii) 634pp. 3/4 tan calf over marbled paper boards. Spine with gilt lettering over red and green labels, as well as gilt ruling, tooling and raised bands. All edges and endpapers marbled. The work is a comprehensive historical survey of the Middle Ages in three volumes, by Hallam the notable English historian. The publication is seen as one of his major works. Rubbing and bumping to hinges and head & tail of spines, corners and along edges. Some smudging and scratching to boards. Interior with some light foxing to the endpapers, title pages and initial pages of the volumes, and a few minor sporadic spots throughout. Book blocks tight. Bindings in overall good, interiors in good+ to very good- condition. Henry Hallam (July 9, 1777 - January 21, 1859) was an English historian. Hallam, was a fellow of the Royal Society, and a trustee of the British Museum. In 1830 he received the gold medal for history, founded by George IV.
