Sobre este artículo

Oxford and London: Printed for R. Clements, 1753. Very good in period polished calf, hinges reinforced, wear to edges, Rugby School and prior owner bookplates to front pastedown.. Hall boldly and incorrectly claimed, when the book was first issued in 1597, that he was the first English satirist (writing in the Latin tradition), "I first adventure, follow me who list; And be the second English satirist."

At the time, the Archbishop of Canterbury directed that Virgidemiarum be burned for licentiousness, but later relented. Alexander Pope declared the Virgidemiarum to be the "best poetry and truest satire in the English language." (Dibdin, Bibliomania, pg. 506, 1811).

12mo. ix, [7], 13-108 pp. ESTC T140513.
