Quentin Bell's important biography on the life and career of his aunt, Virginia Woolf, an illustrated first edition set of this insightful work. The first edition, Volume I is the fourth impression, Volume II the third impression, both published in the same year as the first impression. Both volumes in the original unclipped dust wrappers, and the original slipcase. Slipcase is in a very good condition.Volume I covers her life from 1881 to 1912, Volume II from 1912 to her death in 1941.An insightful biography on the life of Virginia Woolf, written by her nephew, Quentin Bell.It was in this biography where Bell suggested that Woolf's depression in her later life was due to sexual abuse her and her younger sister were subjected to by their half-brothers, George and Gerald Duckworth.Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, fourteen plates, and two in-text drawings.Volume II illustrated with a frontispiece, and fourteen plates.The endpapers show maps of Bloomsbury and Sussex. Volume I includes a family tree. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrappers, and slipcase. Externally, smart. Fading to the head and tail of the spines and to the head of the front board of Volume II. A few small marks to the rear board of Volume I and front board of Volume II. Very minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines. Marks to the fore edges. Dust wrappers are edge worn, with chips and closed tears, heavier to the head of the wraps and spines. Light marks and spots to the wraps. Aged tape repairs to the reverse of the dust wrappers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Slipcase is smart with light marks and spots, and minor wear to the extremities, mostly to the head of the fore edge. Very Good Indeed

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
