Vitruvius Britannicus established Palladian Architecture as the approved style for Britain in the 18th Century. Colen Campbell issued the first three volumes. The plates depict the great country house estates, palaces, government offices and churches..The architects were Inigo Jones, Wren, Vanbrugh et al. with Colen Campbells own New English Paladian designs. The work appeared the same year as Leoni's Palladio. Campbell was a visionary and this work remains the indespensable collection of designs of 17th & 18th Century English Domestic Architecture. ..A further two volumes were issued of the later architects who took Palladianism from the grand to the modest and were published by John Woolfe and James Gandon in 1767 and 1771.
