Born to a poor Australian family, adopted by the wealthy Courtneys as a companion for their hunchbacked daughter, Hurtle gains artistic inspiration from the world surrounding him. Written by Patrick White, a British-born Australian writer who was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1973 - the only Australian to have been awarded the prize. He was also the inaugural recipient of the Miles Franklin Award. In the original orange cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is very smart with minor wear to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
