A novel of racial tension during the reconstruction period in Virginia, after the Civil War. There are some written in numbers in tiny print on the panel on front. Light corner edgewear, scuffing to lower edge, cloth of lower spine end is split up about an inch. Illustrated green endpapers, inner hinge cracked in front and back, backstrap loosened from crash. Rough cut on fore-edge and lower edge. Pages very clean and unmarked, toned. Jacket is tan with black and red letters; original publisher's price on flap; quite clean and unmarked, spine tanned, spine ends chipped, one chip about a half inch deep; corners with light wear; the rear flap has been torn off. Has a nice appearance in a protectiver clear archival cover. 378 pages. 5.75 x 8.5 inches. Doubleday, Doran & Company. Garden City, NY, 1933.
