Susan Sontag’s historical 18th century Neapolitan romance based on the explosive lives of Sir William Hamilton, British Ambassador to the Kingdom Of Naples from 1764-1800, his second wife Emma Hart, and her lover Lord Nelson. Upon his arrival in Naples, Hamilton became enchanted by the Vesuvius and Etna volcanoes and soon felt compelled to write a study on vulcanology, for which he was made a fellow of the Royal Society. He later published his studies in two volumes: "Observations On Mount Vesuvius, Mount Etna, And Other Volcanoes" and "Campi Phlegraei." As New, in an As New dust jacket. A pristine copy.
