Saul Solomon & Co., Cape Town (printers), 1877. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 59 pages (complete). In Dutch throughout. A hardy copy of this EXTREMELY RARE book of military instructions. There is a narrow puncture mark from storage from the back board through to page 17. Previous owner inscription on the frontispage: Assistant VeldKornet/ Rhenosterberg. Full leather. Stamped gilt borders and titling on the front board. Blind stamped borders on the back board. Both boards and spine are much worn, scuffed, scratched, rubbed, marked from handling, storage. Nonetheless, the boards are steady, sure. The guttering along the frontispage is cracked. The general security of the book is unaffected. There are mild, expected indications of the passing of the years. Some pages are lightly tanned about the edges. Otherwise, aside from the distraction mentioned above, the contents are clean, clear, orderly, tidy, fresh-faced, tight, assured, amenable. fk.
