Sobre este artículo
London: Printed by Assigns of John Bill, Thomas Newcomb, and Henry Hills, 1680. First printing. Exotic. Fine. 8 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches. Folio. 48 numbered pages. Pages bright, clean and with uncut edges. Bound in full modern sealskin with fur by John Field (with binder's ticket); Provenance: Library of Harry and Virginia Walton. ESTCP2760. Notable for several debates over responses to the Popish Plot, an alleged Catholic plot to assassinate King Charles II, which led to more than a dozen executions, substantial anti-Catholic hysteria, and (eventually) a perjury conviction for the "discoverer" of the plot. Harry and Virginia Walton were lifelong residents of Covington, Virginia, a small town in the Allegheny Mountains. Harry was a graduate of Lynchburg College, and Virginia was a graduate of the Lynchburg General School of Nursing. Although largely unknown to the general public, the Waltons' reputation as collectors was widely respected in bibliophile and academic circles, and items from their collection were exhibited at numerous colleges, universities and art centers. After their deaths, the original Walton collection was the subject of a series of very successful auctions in New York and London. John Field was an expert leather bookbinder associated with W.J. Barrow Restoration Shop (Richmond, VA).
