With seven other illustrations, including a map of the South Seas showing the tracks of the explorers who preceded Cook. Green cloth with blue lettering on cover. Dust jacket with loss to head and tail of spine; former owner's rubber stamp to ffep. Melbourne bookseller's tag affixed to front pastedown. All else remarkably well preserved. Wood, who wrote "The Discovery of Australia," taught at the University of Sydney. From this book's preface: "In this little book I try to tell the story of Cook's voyage in the Endeavour in a way that will make it interesting to boys and girls, and not uninteresting to men and women." This copy in the scarce dust jacket. Cited in Bibliography of Captain James Cook, RN, FRS [Mitchell Library]: Item # 730. Dust jacket now protected in a clear, removable archival sleeve.
