In a nineteenth century binding of three-quarter leather and marbled boards, with front joint cracked, partial loss of backstrip, old repair to front hinge. Text and plates very clean. Thomas M'Keevor served as the physician for the second group of Selkirk settlers that set out in 1812 for the Red River Colony in Canada. Arctic Bib. 10643: "The author, who sailed as surgeon on a Hudson's Bay Co. vessel's trip to Fort York, discusses the probably marine origin of icebergs, the nature of polar bears and the appearance and habits of Eskimos and Indians." Includes a three-page "Vocabulary of the Dialects" (described by the author as "a few words of Northern and Chippeway Indian language which I wrote down durng my stay at Fort York") and a one-page list of "a few familiar phrases in the Chippeway language." TPL 910.
