A smart collection of works on the life and times of Queen Victoria, and the Coronation of Edward VII and Alexandra, with illustrations throughout. Complete with the index and preface, parts one to sixteen, and The Art Journal Coronation Number. The life and empire of Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 1837 until her death in 1901. Her reign was longer than any of her predecessors and was a period of vast industrial, political, scientific, and military development within the United Kingdom, as well as a great expansion of the British Empire. With the Coronation Number of the Art Journal, detailing the coronation of Edward VII and his wife, Alexandra, as king and queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions. Illustrated throughout with numerous black-and-white images, one colour plate to part four, and a colour frontispiece to part sixteen. With four tipped in plates to Coronation Number. Collated complete. Written by John Campbell, 9th Duke of Argyll, known by the title of Marquess of Lorne, a British nobleman who was Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883 and husband to Princess Louise, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light rubbing and fading to the extremities. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, unbound as issued with each individual magazine inserted. Paper wraps are smart with the odd small crease or closed tear and light age toning to the extremities. Minor chipping to the odd volume with a closed tear to the joint of part six. Front section of the wrap detached but present the Coronation Number with light loss, and chipping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. An ink stamp to the front pastedown. Very Good
