Sobre este artículo
Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott Co., 1885. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Hovenden, Penn, Gaul, and Low. 12mo. 74 pages. Soft cover bound in flexible brown leather with a string tied spine and with all edges gilt. Moderate wear to the binding. There are a few superficial scuff marks on the front cover. A sound copy with a sturdy text block. The text is a little toned, and there is some browning on page 48 where a piece of decorative Victorian paper (now absent) was laid in loosely. Contains six full-page illustrations. Early owner's name of Erma Clark on the front flyleaf. Thomas Buchanan Read (1822-1872) was from Chester County, Pennsylvania and was both a painter and a poet. He was known for his portrait paintings of Abraham Lincoln, Longfellow, Tennyson, and Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. This poem, rich in pathos, is an epic poem set during the American Revolution. As Read was from Pennsylvania, we assume the poem takes place also in Pennsylvania.
