Sobre este artículo

New York & London: Alfred A. Knopf, 1928. Very good plus.. First edition of this Harlem Renaissance classic, depicting the inter- and intra-racial conflicts of the Black community in Harlem with a dash of satire. Rudolph Fisher was a Renaissance man: working as a physician and radiologist, he published widely in literary outlets, composed and performed jazz music, and wrote at least one script for a play. In THE WALLS OF JERICHO, his first novel, Fisher responds to "a friend's challenge" that he pen a novel that sympathetically depicted both the upper and lower classes of Black Harlem (BRITANNICA). In his tale of attempted assimilation and in-group fighting, Fisher paints an ultimately optimistic story of unity in the face of oppression. 7.75'' x 5''. Original brown cloth binding with gilt lettering and red and green decoration. Red topstain, other edges machine-deckle. Black endpapers. Title page with red accents. [8], 308 pages, with glossary. Bookplate of "The Arthur F. Martins" to front pastedown. Newspaper clipping of a biographical cartoon about Fisher by Melvin Tapley tipped onto second blank. Binding with light wear to corners and spine ends, mild toning to gilt on spine. Interior sharp and bright.
