Adams, the first edition of The War Messages of Franklin D. Roosevelt: December 8, 1941, To October 12, 1942.. Quarto [2], 76pp, [1]. Publisher's blue printed wraps, title printed in gold on front cover. Bound at spine, with light sunning edges, chip at head of spine. (Halter T-755) Unique inscription from John Valentine to Adams: "For F.D. Adams, Jr. - This is supposedly a "hush-hush" publication by the Library of Congress, for distribution abroad only, propaganda-like." John Valentine / Jan. 1944." From Halter: Probably published in November 1942, by the Office of War Information, strictly for foreign distribution. Also issued in several other languages. A supplement was published by the OWI in 1943 and final edition in 1945, each with additional material. Includes the first printed examples of Fireside Chats from April 28, 1942, September 3, 1942 and October 12, 1942. As well as the Flag Day Address of June 14, 1942. Provenance: From the private collection of Frederick B. Adams, bibliographer of President Roosevelt and director of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York. His collection was sold by Sotheby's in 2001.
