Sobre este artículo
Philadelphia: Porter & Coates, 1877. 195 x 125 mm. (7 5/8 x 4 7/8"). 542 pp.
Publisher's green pictorial cloth, upper cover with gilt centerpiece depicting a mare nursing a foal, smooth spine with large gilt ornament composed of farming tools, gilt titling. With numerous illustrations in the text, a few of these full-page. Front flyleaf with ink stamp of J. F.[?] Sprague. ◆A breath of rubbing to extremities, leaves a little yellowed with age, but a fine, unworn copy with no signs of use.
This is an excellent copy of an indispensable guide to buying and running a successful farm, written by the prominent agricultural and sanitary consultant, George Waring (1833-98). Although Waring established himself as authority on agriculture through the publication of this work and others, he is primarily remembered as an advocate for and designer of sanitation systems. According to DNB, "His practice and advocacy of sanitary engineering represented a major contribution to the eradication of his generation's enormous accumulations of urban wastes and hence to the improvement of the quality of life of the people who lived in cities.".

Sobre Phillip J. Pirages Fine Books and Medieval Manuscripts
Phillip J. Pirages Fine Books an Manuscripts was established in 1978 on a ping pong table in a basement in Kalamazoo, Michigan. From the beginning, its founder was willing to sell a range of material, but over the years, the business has gravitated toward historical artifacts that are physically attractive in some way--illuminated material, fine bindings, books printed on vellum, fore-edge paintings, beautiful typography and paper, impressive illustration. Today, the company still sells a wide range of things, from (scruffy) ninth century leaves to biblical material from all periods to Wing and STC imprints to modern private press books to artists' bindings. While we are forgiving about condition when something is of considerable rarity, we always try to obtain the most attractive copies possible of whatever we offer for sale.
