Australia: Angus & Robertson, 1935. The J-class submarines were seven submarines developed by the Royal Navy prior to the First World War in response to claims that Germany was developing submarines that were fast enough to operate alongside surface fleets. Leading Torpedo-man Tom, or 'Taff', Jones had been among the landing boat crews at Gallipoli aboard HMS London. Jones subsequently served aboard J2 and published this rare account Life on board a J-boat was a cramped and dangerous affair. J2 was crewed by five officers and forty men. Jones describes the inside of J2 and the living and working conditions as they were in 1916 and also his service Post War service aboard J2 in Australia alongside with their tender HMAS Platypus. CONDITION Green cloth bds, Pp [viii] 224. Copy is mostly very bright and crisp, top front cnr bumped, mosly clean with mark bottom front, cloth not worn, splash? mark causing some staining to spine, top edge and top edge of rear end page, light foxed to ends and edges. First Edition not bound as part of the series from unsold copies.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
