We the undersigned do agree to subscribe the sum of 2 sovereigns cash for a Cup value 32 sovereigns to be run for on two different days (two classes each day) with not less than 3 and not more than 10 days interval (unless prevented by weather) during the months of December or January 1829 & 1830. By 16 dogs bona fide the property of subscribers at least a week before the first day of running. The kill also to be named at the same time and by a not less number of subscribers. The dogs to be named and entered two days before the first day of running to Mr John Stone, Hornby Castle. No subscriber to withdraw his name or transfer his nomination to another person without the consent of at least five subscribers. The Silver Cup to be run for according to the general rules of coursing used at Malton, Swaffham, Newmarket, and ashdown Park meetings as mentioned in Dr Goodlake's book intitles the Coursing Manual. Mr Hornby. Subscribers: Lord C.G. Osborne, Sackville Lane Fox, Esq. 325mm x 205mm. 1829? ~ This scheme predates the founding of the Waterloo Cup in 1836, but does not appear to have got off the ground. Hornby Castle estate was owned by the Osborne family (Duke of Leeds). Sacville Lane-Fox married Lady Charlotte Mary Anne Georgiana Osborne, daughter of George Osborne, 6th Duke of Leeds, in 1826.
