This was the strange telegram that brought four ex-wives of the late Maxwell Orbit, wealthy playboy, sportsman and woman-chaser, to the house in California of Nick Hogarthy, famous woman journalist and Maxwell's first wife. Orbit had died in New York in mysterious circumstances; he had been a thoroughly nasty piece of work, sadistic, unfaithful and two-faced.
