Sobre este artículo
London: William Heinemann Ltd,, 1959. First UK edition, first impression. The UK production began at Manchester Palace Theatre (14 November - 6 December 1958) and moved to the West End for performances in Her Majesty's Theatre (12 December 1958 - 10 June 1961). The Broadway premiere took place at the Winter Garden Theatre on 26 September 1957. It was first published as a book in the US the year preceding the UK edition. The Guardian wrote of the West End debut that "as a production, as a total work for the stage West Side Story is superb. All that has been said (perhaps too often) about American vitality finds justification in these dances, at once so loose-limbed and so tautly executed. The opening clash, the dance at the gym, the Puerto Rican girls' America, and the rival gang's Cool: man is a splendid animal, and these remind us of it." Octavo. Original red boards, spine lettered in gilt, publisher's blind device on rear cover. With dust jacket. Photographic half-tone frontispiece, 6 further half-tones, all after photographs of the West End production taken by Angus McBean. Bookseller's ticket on front pastedown. Bump to spine foot, pale foxing on edges; jacket unclipped, closed tear to head of lightly toned spine, foxing to rear panel and verso: a near-fine copy in very good jacket. "West Side Story hits London", The Guardian, 13 Dec. 1958.
