Sobre este artículo

Juneau, Alaska: Empire Printing Co.. Very Good+ with no dust jacket. 1936. First Edition. Hardcover. "A group of fifteen letters written on a round-the-world tour that grew out of membership in the Philippine inaugural party of the United States Congress, as published in the Daily Alaska Empire, of Juneau, Alaska." Cream paper over boards, tan cloth spine with black lettering, illustrated with photographs on inserted plates. Still protected by original unprinted glassine dust jacket. ; 6" x 9"; 75 pp; Chapters discuss Japan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, The Philippines, Gold, Singapore, Malaya, Ceylon, India, Egypt, Italy and Home ("approaching New York's majestic skyline"). "Emil Edward Hurja (22 January 1892 - 30 May 1953) was an American newspaper editor and political consultant. Hurja was a pioneer of political opinion polling and played an advisory role during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt " (Wikipedia). Included within the text is a note to the publisher of the Daily Alaska Empire (who also happened to be Governor of Alaska at the time). This title is about world travel but the connection to Alaska is not noted in Wickersham or Tourville. The letter asks that the publisher "put me down for 175 copies or enough to go to all members of the party". It also admonishes the publisher to "please keep the cost down, for this is a campaign year". ; Spine a bit cocked, boards toned along top edge otherwise fine. The rare unsigned copy, clean and unmarked within. Jacket toned, edgeworn with closed tears and tiny losses, lacking a small piece in the center of the spine. .
