Sobre este artículo

London: Macmillan and Co., 1885. [Historical fiction] RELFE BROTHERS PRIZE BINDING. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.[11] 591 [4]. Tan full calf binding with gilt ruling to borders and the gilt St. John's Foundation School emblem impressed to upper board. Gilt tooling and red title label to spine, raised bands. Blind dentelle to turn-ins. With nonpareil marbled endpapers. All edges red. Foxing to first and last few leaves, light toning to the rest. Somewhat dusty to top edge. Some rubbing and toning to leather binding, especially joints. Sunning to the inner edge of upper board. Very good. Kingsley's works, including 'Westward Ho!,' feature characters that embody a trait which he called 'Christian manliness,' rough brutishness paired with moral purity. As a deeply religious person, the book displays how even his historical adventure novels were used to explore Christian themes. Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
