Vermillion, South Dakota: Dakota Press, 1991. First Edition. Octavo. 354 pages, inscribed by the author to a close friend, index. Besides the book, laid in is a memorial pamphlet on his life entitled: "A Life of Service to Mankind, Country and Community, Major General Lloyd Roosevelt Moses". He was in the beginning of his career in South Dakota as a rural schoolteacher and chemist. As a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps until called to active duty. First, he trained soldiers and then in Europe served with the 507th Parachute Regiment. He worked on the European Theatre staff and was included in the airborne assault on the Rhine. After the war, he became post commander at Senai, Japan. Then sent to Germany where he commanded the U.S. Fifth Army. After retirement, he became the director of the Institute of Indian Studies at the University of South Dakota. The Rosebud Sioux tribe adopted him and he was given the Indian name of Tokaha Waste Wicasha (good leader). He and his wife are buried in Arlington National Cemetery. A very good copy bound in blue cloth lettered and stamped in gilt, spine lettering gilt, in a good dust jacket rubbed along the edges and spine ends, previous owner's name stamped on the front pastedown and a spot of whiteour on upper corner of front free endpaper.
