Dodd, Mead & Co., 1903. Hardcover. Very Good. Very early edition (First edition issued in 1896). Near Very Good volume, with tender front and rear hinges - with exposed webbing. Blank front free end-paper has two pencil names and dates, (1905 and 1925). Top edge gilt (still bright). Corners are gently bumped and crown and foot of spine cloth just starting to fray. Front and rear book boards have discolored areas (vintage soiling?). This title is written in 'dialect' verse, but he also wrote in both conventional English and Mid-Western regional dialect. Illustrated with 40 b/w photographs from the Hampton Institute Camera Club. LAID-IN is a six (6) page "HAMPTON" booklet, (5' x 4") issued by 'The Press of the Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute', dated 1917. 144 pages.Fabulous item. Protected in a mylar slip.
