Blue cloth hardcover with title in gilt on front. Title and narrative relating to book by Meredith Nicholson printed on front panel of dust jacket. Inner jacket blurb written by Lucius B. Swift. Two chipped areas on the upper edge front dust jacket. Colonel Robert Shaw commanded the all black 54th Massachusetts Regiment. He was killed in the second Battle of Fort Wagner, near Charleston, July 18th, 1863.
