New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1920. Hardcover. Very Good. First American edition, unrecorded variant binding. Octavo. 283pp. Black cloth gilt. Owner's neat pencil name dated 1923 on front fly (erasable). Spine lettering is a little dull, very faint discoloration marks on front board, a very good or a bit better copy, lacking the dust jacket. The bibliographer makes no mention of this black cloth binding, only an orange cloth stamped in black. Author's first book. *Kirkpatrick* A1b: 2630 copies printed.
Sinopsis
Where Angels Fear to Tread (1905) follows two women to Italy: the widowed Lilia Herriton and her traveling companion Caroline Abbott. Lilia falls passionately in love with the country, and also with a young Italian man. Her decision to remain in Italy enrages her dead husband's family, who send her brother-in-law to fetch her back.
