Novel seen here under the working titles "Die a Little Death" and "The Baby Powder Murders." Ribbon typescript and the submission copy both inscribed and signed by the author on the first pages and title pages.
Ribbon typescript inscription reads: "Barry dear-First-hot off the typewriter-Die A Little Death which was published as Where Are the Children / Love, Mary." Typescript includes author annotations in manuscript pencil, ink, and marker throughout.
Submission copy inscription reads: "For Barry-My dear friend-My sole copy of the sedmission (sic) manuscript of the book that was retitled Where Are the Children / Love Mary."
Working papers comprised of over 135 leaves of notes and drafts for the novel, and include an early working draft of the first chapter under the working title The Baby Powder Murders.
Clark's first and best selling mystery and crime novel, beginning a career which earned her the moniker "The Queen of Suspense." Basis for the 1986 film of the same name, directed by Bruce Malmuth and starring Jill Clayburgh and Max Gail.
