London and Glasgow: Collins' Clear-Type Press, 1922. No date; circa 1922. Rare material; out-of-print version featuring single color frontispiece. This later printing followed the 1904 Arthur Rackham illustrated edition. Measures 4 3/4" x 6 7/8". Brick red ruled boards w/blindstamped borders, black stamped spine titles, moderate shelf wear, rub, discoloration. Front cover features blindstamped circular cameo of boy's diligent profile surrounded ruled borders. Frontispiece painting features boy shaking captain's hand: "He arrived in a much less exhausted condition than this friend". Leaves generally good, varying toning. Classical pictorial colored plate in orange, red and brown featuring emanating oil lamp and swirling paisely: "Prize Awarded to Harry Henshaw for Good Conduct and Attendence from Mrs. Carver, Xmas 1922". String-bind good, intact. Solid example of this classic volume. Chapter contents: "George Payne arrives at Montreal; Going A-Sugaring; At Teulon; Farming and Hunting; In which we are introduced to New People; Jokers and Sleepers; A Narrow Shave; A Start for the Klondike; Over the Chilcoot Pass; Getting the Gold; A regular Broncho Buster; With the Mounted Rifles; On to Pretoria; A Slim Trick; Old Friends, Good News, and a Camp Fire; In which the Story returns to Harold; A Man Overboard; Hunting and Hunted; The Stowaway; Harold and the Stowaway are Missing; A Battle for Life; Discovered by Good Samaritans; Mysterious Words; 'Forty Winks' and what they brought; The Bushranger's Prisoner; The Mutiny of the Mermaid; and, The Ends of the Threads." This title is part of a series Collins’ Clear Type Press published, which included biographies of ‘the Lives of Men and Women who have achieved fame by the services they have rendered to their country or to mankind’.
