The rugged mountainous territory he traversed, spanning the Hindukush and Karakoram ranges, was both physically daunting and dangerous, inhabited as it was (and is) by tribal groups hostile to any outside presence. A vivid and valuable account of the people and territory of Central Asia, as Britain, Russia and China struggled for power and influence in this region. Bound in original green decorative boards, spine faded with small hole in lower cloth; spine head and tail a little frayed. Small tear on half title, now taped.
