A lovely 40th Anniversary Edition of Maurice Sendak's award-winning book, signed by him for Parrish Books on the half-title page. Printed from the new engravings made from the original art in 1988 for the 25th Anniversary edition published by Harper & Row. Max as King of the Wild Things: the adventure is as fresh and fun as ever it was with the Sendak magic illustrations. In fine unread condition. The dustjacket sports the half-moon 40th Anniversary seal and the copyright page includes the Library of Congress catalog card number: 63-21253 "Twenty-fifth anniversary edition," and "HARPER COLLINS PUBLISHERS" all in caps, distinguishing it from the 25th Anniversary Edition and related reissues. The price $16.95 is on the top of the front dustjacket flap.

Maurice Sendak has been awarded countless awards for illustration of children's books, including the Caldecott Medal, 1964 (for Where the Wild Things Are); Hans Christian Andersen International Medal, 1970; Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, 1983; Jewish Cultural Achievement Award, 1988; National Medal of Arts, 1996. A beautiful copy and scarce signature.

BEST. BOOK. EVER. I have given a copy to every child in my life (family & friends). The imagination given wings and the safety net of a parent's love. Beautifully naughty, captures the joy of childhood and possibilities.
