Sobre este artículo
Melbourne: E. W. Cole, 1908. Very good overall. A racist postcard, sent to a member of the Lilliputian Opera Company touring in Yokohama, Japan in 1908, sent by "Grandma" to Miss Davis, wanting to see the singing parts and wish her and Charlie (Charles Pollard?) a good New Year.
"Pollard's Lilliputian Opera Company troupes (were) run by Charles Pollard and his sister Nellie Chester. The children usually came from the inner suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. A feature is that these troupes generally performed in South-East Asia, India and North America over the period 1896 -1910, but never in their hometown of Melbourne." forgottenaustralianactressesdotcom*
The postcard illustrates the scale of land mass to density of population, comparing India, China, Java and Japan to Australia, with the large continent of Australia largely empty.
Split back postcard with a map of Australia. On the verso "Printed Published and sold, Wholesale and Retail, by E. W. Cole, Book Arcade, Melbourne". This postally used, stamped in Melbourne, arriving in Yokohama 28.2.08. Libraries Australia ID 49200709. Corners slt. rubbed.
