Tik does his best to adapt to the Inuit ways of life, learning their ways of survival from two wise mentors; Ooniak, head of the village, and his ancient father Ipeelee. They watch this naïve young white boy grow into a strong and self-reliant, almost brown man, and as they observe him communicate with whales, seals, loons and gulls, they become convinced that their white brother possesses magical powers – that he is a shaman, kin to the sea creatures.
