He was an assistant professor of sociology at San Francisco State University from 1960 to 196, and was an assistant professor at The State University of New York at Buffalo from 1962 to 1965;, and became an associate professor, retiring at the rank of professor in 1990. His book Who Needs the Negro? was printed in 1970. It was reviewed in a number of academic journals, including American Journal of Sociology, Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, and Contemporary Sociology.
