Internally there is a contemporary signarure and date to front endpaper, age darkening to endpapers and some staing to the margins of some pages. lix + 288 pages. Fore and lower edges uncut. Top edge gilt. Two tissue protected engravings by W. Boucher and a photogravure portrait of Balzac by H. Crickmore. Fourth edition printed August 1903. Translated by Ellen Marriage with a preface by George Saintsbury. Uniform with Dent's series of the Comedie Humaine. Despite its faults it is a good reading copy well translated. C3A. Hard Cover. Fair TEG/No Jacket. Illus. by Boucher. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
