London: Hodder and Stoughton, [1913]. Cloth. Near Fine. 10" by 7.5" . Cherry Kearton. Cherry Kearton's impressive study of wild life across the world, adorned with some of is remarkable photography. A bright copy. Cherry Kearton, along with his brother Richard, was a British naturalist, one of the world's earliest wildlife photographer who developed new methods to photograph animals in the wild, and in 1895, published the first natural history book to be entirely illustrated with wild photographs. In this volume, he narrates of his travels in the wild, including Borneo, his first African trip, India &c., and accompanies each chapter with numerous wild life photographs, which are famed among naturalists. Collated complete. With an introduction by Theodore Roosevelt, a dear friend of the author. Undated, dated 1913 from Copac and a dated inscription to the front free endpaper. In the original publisher's full cloth binding with an embossed gilt lion head to the front board. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, the spine has only slightly faded to the head and tail. Neatly inscribed to the front free endpaper by a previous owner, dated 1913. Internally, firmly bound. With some minor spotting to the fore edge, affecting only the odd leaf; otherwise, the pages are generally bright and clean. Illustrated with numerous plates of wild life photography. Collated, complete. Near Fine
