The Wilderness Hunter is the third book Theodore Roosevelt wrote while living as a rancher and "wilderness hunter" in the North Dakota Badlands. After losing his mother and first wife, a young Roosevelt, in grieving and momentarily disillusioned with his political career, moved west to pursue his childhood interest of the natural wilderness. The Wilderness Hunter, published after his return east, is Roosevelt's observations about living in in the wilderness and techniques for hunting various animals.
