William, Charles, John O'Neal brothers at military camp, 1915

1915. Good + overall. Three photographs of three brothers. The captioned photograph names the three O'Neal brothers in W.W.I. like uniforms beneath a tree, captioned: 'William, Charles, John O'Neal Brothers at Camp 1915.' The second image shows a military parade with soldiers marching with flags down a main street followed by cars, showing the storefront of Sprague Trading Co. The third is a silver gelatin print of buffalo on the range.

It's possible the brothers signed up for service in the Mexican wars which were fought between 1910 and 1920. Pancho Villa executed 16 US citizens in January 1916 and later raided the border town of Columbus Mexico, killing 17 Americans. Cavalry from the nearby Camp Furlong U.S. Army outpost pursued the Mexicans. In March 1916, Brig. Gen. John J. Pershing was brought in to lead the U.S. Army expedition into Mexico in search of Villa. The peaked wide brim hat and uniforms appear to be for noncommissioned officers, signal and line officers. (see Ogden prints).
