A scarce history of William Ward (1603-1687), of Sudbury, Massachusetts, and his descendants into the twentieth century. His great-grandson was the first Commander-in-Chief in the American Revolution. The book is divided into two parts with the bulk of the work being PART TWO, the genealogy of William Ward's descendants in the ten generations that descended from him in America. PART ONE includes the following: The Search for the English Home of "Wiliam Ward of Sudbury;' The England and North America of the Youth of William Ward, his Emigration; The Voyage; The First Weeks in the New World; Founding Sudbury, Mass.; Pioneer Life in Old Massachusetts; Policies and Suffrage in Old Massachusetts; Founding a Second Township; King Philip's War; and After King Philip's War to the Death of William Ward. Two Indexes conclude Ward Names and Names Other Than Ward. Originating from Andrew Hensh Ward's "Ward Family," which recorded 4,027 descendants, this volume records 10,746 descendants, a substantial update for the twentieth century.
