1939 Reynal and Hitchcock first American edition. First state of the trade edition. Quarter bound leather over light blue boards.
This first state of the trade edition was printed at the same time as the signed limited edition. Both the limited edition and the first trade edition have the Cornwall Press printer's credit on the copyright page, and have the same design for the book's exterior. This first trade edition only lacks the signed limitation page that would be included in the limited edition.
Later versions of the book have exteriors with the book's title printed on the front board. Some later versions have an H. Wolff printer's credit instead of Cornwall Press.
Condition of the book is Good. The binding is straight and sound. Inside pages are complete and unmarked. The book shows age-related wear, including considerable wear to the outer leather surface along the book's spine.
