Sobre este artículo
First American hardcover edition with dust jacket, published by Random House, 1942. Eleven short stories, the follow up to her 'Out of Africa'. The dust jacket is intact, and has been protected with a clear, removable cover. Jacket has some wear with a closed tear of about an inch on the top edge, chipping to the head and heel of the spine, a chip on the spine of about a half inch across, edge wear to the tips of the corners. Maroon cloth covered boards with the title and author name in gold on the spine within a black field, Some light edge wear to the bottom edge of the boards. Blue-green topstain has a couple dots of staining. Sewn binding is tight and square. As this was published in 1942, there are some interesting wartime features - 'The Men in the Service Need Books!' note on the back panel of the jacket for example. Edges of the text block are relatively clean, besides the dots noted on the top. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. The attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.
Sinopsis
Isak Dinesen is the pseudonym of Karen Blixen, born in Denmark in 1885. After her marriage in 1914 to Baren Bror Blixen, she and her husband lived in British East Africa, where they owned a coffee plantation. She was divorced from her husband in 1921 but continued to manage the plantation for another ten years, until the collapse of the coffee market forced her to sell the property and return to Denmark in 1931. There she began to write in English under the nom de plume Isak Dinesen. Her first book, and literary success, was Seven Gothic Tales . It was followed by Out of Africa , The Angelic Avengers (written under the pseudonym Pierre Andrézel), Winter's Tales , Last Tales , Anecdotes of Destiny , Shadows on the Grass and Ehrengard . She died in 1962.
