Sobre este artículo

This First Edition copy of "The Wise Men of Chelm", by Samuel Tenenbaum and Illustrated by Zevi Blum was published in 1965 by Thomas Yoseloff of New York and London, and printed in the United States. The book, which measures approximately 5 ¾ x 8 ½ inches, contains 176 pages of text and B & W illustrations dedicated to the activities of the Wise Men of Chelm. To avoid any misunderstanding, the book's dust jacket text explains "Chelm is a legendary town whose inhabitants are known throughout the world for their stupidity. The inhabitants of Chelm, under the guidance of their 'Wise Men', move from calamity to calamity, confident that they are without equals, and delighting in their perversity. While other towns have sidewalks for people, the townspeople of Chelm walk in the street, assuming that since they are superior to horses, the horses and carriages must use the smaller part of the road, i.e., the sidewalk…".

The book contains 44 tales, plus many illustrations, relating the "adventures" that took place in the town of Chelm. The book is hardbound in purple cloth covered boards with silver printing on the spine. The original dust jacket embraces the book. The book is in fine condition; the dust jacket is slightly discolored along the edges, but otherwise in very good condition.

The illustration accompanying this description show the front face of the dust jacket, the Title page, and three (3) typical 2-page spreads of text and illustrations.

Sobre Pages For Sages

Pages For Sages has been in the business of buying and selling rare and used books, ephemera, and other unusual items for over forty years. We have long depended on book fairs, printed catalogs, auctions, and the like to support the business. Now, in our later years (ages 90 and 92) we are taking this step to display a catalog of inventory on the Biblio web site for your consideration. The number of our listings will grow as we continue the process of adding items from our inventory - please come back from time to time to find additional offerings.
