Sobre este artículo

New York: Dick and Fitzgerald. Good. [1857]. Later Printing. Hardcover. (no dust jacket) [bumped and worn at corners, but still quite a decent copy; one-time owner's name and date (1867) written lightly on the ffep, and a short column of figures (added up) in pencil on the second ffep]. (Library of Sam Slick's Works) Series Corny 19th-century humor, the first-person narrative of a Yankee yokel abroad in the land, lookin' fer a women he kin marry and settle down with. The "anonymous" author, Thomas Chandler Halilburton, was a Nova Scotian judge who became a best-selling author on the basis of his "Sam Slick" stories, which became very popular light reading in England and America. Several collections of these satirical tales were issued during his lifetime; the first was "The Clockmaker," published in 1836. The town of Windsor, NS, where Haliburton resided (his house there is a museum), still celebrates Sam Slick as part of their annual festival. .
