Bruxelles: Johannis Mommartius, 1656 A good copy of the second edition of this extremely rare work. First printed in Venice in 1652. Baldassare Bonifacio was a professor among many other talents and this work is a cabinet of curiosities - gathering a wide range of stories and recollections - including tales from classical antiquity of women who had serpent lovers. In full leather binding with raised bands and gilt decoration to the spine and tooling to the boards. It has had an old leather repair relaying the tooled front board onto plain leather. It is clean, showing wear to top and bottom of spine and edges and with a broken front hinge and weak rear hinge, although the board is still attached. The contents are in superb condition given the age of the book. There is a biographical note written in ink in english on a preliminary and 2-3 signs of previous ownershiip. Armorial bookplate to the front pastedown of The Right Honourable George Rose. In old half leather, the spine is torn and very damaged with loss. Glue repairs. Front board held by cords. First edition; two volumes; 340, 368pp. In contemporary full speckled calf (somewhat worn, front hinges cracked but secure), gilt volume numbers and remains of title labels to spines, early ink ownership inscription to half-title of volume 2, sporadic light paper browning but overall a very good complete copy of this uncommon history. Italia: n.p., 1835. Very Good. 19 cm; 20 pages (three blank), including 7 full-page illustrations with captions. Text and illustrations lithographed throughout. Bound in (later?) plain wraps. Not in Melzi. No copies located. Apparently unrecorded booklet with text and illustrations produced completely in lithograph. The text reproduces an italic calligraphy that must have been lettered in reverse on stone, or written out on transfer paper before being applied to the lithographic stone. The narrative concerns a lady who is handily juggling simultaneous affairs with a young man and with the young man's father.
