Book includes short autobiographies of prominent black historical figures including from the late Reconstruction days of Booker T. Introduction reads: "In its novel approach the book opens up a new [perspective on the problems of interracial tension. As Mrs. Barton points out, prejudice may be a two-way process." Barton was a member of the Wellesley College Class of 1926 who went on to be an author, teacher, and human rights advocate. After graduating from Wellesley, she worked for a year as an English teacher at Williams Memorial Institute, in New London, Connecticut.
