A very smart, first edition copy of this captivating novel by Booker Prize-winning author Roddy Doyle, signed to the title page. In the original unclipped dust wrapper, and signed by the author to the title page.This thought-provoking novel tells the story of a woman whose abusive husband was murdered, and her subsequent struggle with alcohol. The novel juxtaposes the violent abuse from her husband and the violent manner of his death. Written by Irish novelist Roddy Doyle, who won the Booker Prize for his 1993 novel, Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha. This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, excellent, with no discernible shelf wear. Unclipped dust wrapper is lovely and bright. Author's signature to the title page. Internally, firmly bound. A few spots to the fore-edge, not affecting the pages, which are all bright and clean. Near Fine
