Howland, Worcester, Massachusetts, Copyright 1847. 3.5 x 5 5/8 inches, 155pp. String-tied pocket directory with printed orange card stock wrappers. Wrappers are heavily rubbed and soiled with edge wear. Interior pages relatively clean. Memorandum pages for each month typically has penciled notes. Map is complete with chipping along the neat line at top edge and heavily foxed. Fair Condition. Mid 19th century directory from Worcester, Massachusetts filled with period ads, a monthly calendar with sunrise and sunset times, moon phases plus single-line alphabetical directory. Also includes town and county register. No holdings found in OCLC (as of August 2023) for the 1848 Directory. Only University of Michigan holds the "Plan of the Village of Worcester" extracted from the directory.

Attractive miniature book, bound in full red wallet-style leather, all edges gilt, complete with leather tonge but missing the tie, some rubbing, pencil inscription, ink date. Attributed to Elizabeth Fry; preface signed Upton Lane, 4th Month, 1831; this was Elizabeth Fry's home at the time, and the numeration in the calendar follows Quaker practice in numbering months and days. Good to very good condition with light rubbing to the extremities, gilt bright and clear, good hinges, sound text block, map slightly age-darkened but clean, a couple of minor notes in the almanac section, names in pencil in upper margins of first and final advertisements, pages a little age-toned but clean..
