Often called "The Most Beautiful Book Ever Published," William Morris's acclaimed masterpiece, "THE KELMSCOTT CHAUCER," first published at his Kelmscott Press in 1896, in Hammersmith, London, the same year that Morris died. This masterpiece set a new precedent for book design at the end of the 19th century, and was breathtaking in its number of illustrations and rich borders. The current edition includes all 87 of Burne-Jones's illustrations and all of Morris's borders and woodblock initial capitals. Speaking of Morris's" Kelmscott Chaucer," Burne-Jones said of the work, "Indeed when the book is done, if we live to finish it, it will be like a pocket cathedral—so full of design and I think Morris the greatest master of ornament in the world." Today, it is still held by many to be the most exquisite book of printed English literature.
