Philadelphia: Avil Publishing Company, 1901 Volume 3 of 18 only. Two books in one volume comprising Eugenie Grandet, about miserliness and how it is bequeathed from the father to the daughter as well as Ursule Mirouet, about greed and its comeuppance. In addition to these two novels are eight stories/novellas. Ex-library and in service for 45 years, this book displays the full complement of insults and is well worn. Condition notes: Book 1: (xiv), 383 numbered pp; Book 2: (xiv), 389 numbered pp; HB, no DJ. In addition to frontis, there are 4 hos texte illustrations w/ tissue guards. Pages: clean, ivory, tight, t.e.g., sepia frontis (lacks tissue guard); a few dampstains to edges, a.e. sunned. 1 p torn out and inelegantly tape repaired, hinges cracked. Cover: navy, black titles to well-worn spine paster; substantial shelfwear, extrems and b.e. worn through, thin strip of head missing, rubbed, modest soil. Not a pretty girl.
